Against the backdrop of Atlanta’s biggest sporting moment this summer, Cox Enterprises, in partnership with Atlanta Tech Week and the Georgia Cleantech Innovation Hub, presents The Play With Purpose Hackathon: A 3-day hackathon designed for Metro Atlanta area college students to pitch their ideas to build a more sustainable future.

For students: Form your team, pitch your solutions and you could win one of several prizes, including our grand prize: 4 tickets to a 2026 FIFA World Cup match in Atlanta!

Requirements

Play with Purpose Hackathon: Submission Requirements

To be eligible to win prizes (including the 4 World Cup tickets), all teams must complete the following steps:

Step 1: Register Your Team

Deadline: Midnight, Saturday, June 14, 2026

  • Register your team on Devpost
  • Confirm all team members on the platform
  • Select your track
  • Select the specific prize categories you want to be eligible for (e.g., Southern Company, Cox Farms, Carter's)

You must select prize categories to be considered for them. If you don't select them, you can't win them.

Step 2: Build and Publish Your Project

During the hackathon

  • You can publish your project on Devpost at any time during the hackathon
  • All team members must be added to the submission
  • You can edit your submission anytime before the final deadline (recommended)
Step 3: Submit Your Abstract and Demo Video

Deadline: Midnight, Tuesday, June 16, 2026

  • Submit a project abstract on Devpost
  • Submit a recorded demo video on Devpost
  • Video length: minimum 1 minute, maximum 5 minutes
  • Video must include:
    • An introduction to the problem space your project addresses
    • A demonstration of your project's features and functionality

Put real effort into your video and description. Judges will use your Devpost submission alongside your live demo to determine winners.

Step 4: Final Devpost Submission

Deadline: Midnight, Wednesday, June 17, 2026

  • Your complete Devpost submission must be published by this deadline
  • All team members must be added to the submission
  • Submissions made after this deadline will not be accepted, no exceptions
Step 5: Attend Demo Day In-Person

Date: Wednesday, June 17, 2026

  • All students must attend Demo Day in person to be eligible for any prizes
  • This includes the 4 World Cup tickets and all track-specific prizes
  • No in-person attendance, no prize eligibility

Judging Criteria

  • Value (20%)
    How well does the team communicate their understanding of the problem and identify the persona(s) of their user and/or customer? Does the team lay it out well?
  • Innovation (25%)
    How novel is the idea/solution? How disruptive is the idea/solution?
  • Polish (25%)
    Can the team effectively demo their concept/MVP/solution? Can the team convince an audience that their innovation is compelling (execution + creativity and storytelling)?
  • Impact (30%)
    Is the idea/solution fully "regenerative" ie could it be an indefinite solution; does it drastically improve sustainability of current processes or is it just a slight improvement?
